Memorial Day Challenge

Memorial Day at South Island CrossFit is a time for our gym to gather, invite our community, work out, and enjoy our friendships. So on May 27, SIC will join CrossFit gyms around the world in doing the Murph WOD (we call it the Memorial Day Challenge). We do this workout in honor of all those who have given their lives for the freedoms we experience. The workout we do on this day was made famous by Lt. Michael P. Murphy, a Navy SEAL killed in action in 2005.

For this special event we are asking people to register for the event. If you are not a SIC members and you would like to participate, we ask that you register by purchasing a shirt and completing the waiver. If you are a member, you can register through Wodify (but if you still want a shirt, please register through the links provided on this page).  

What do you get for registering?

What do the T-shirts Look LIke

The t-shirts will be a military/olive green with the lettering and design in white. The back side of the shirt has the phrase, “Remember your heroes” with the workout listed.

About the Workout

The gym will be open starting at 3:00pm on May 27 with the option to start the workout at 3:30pm. You are welcome to start anytime between 3:30 and 5:00pm. At 5:00pm we will begin the potluck of burrito bowls and sides. The potluck/hangout time will go until 7:00pm.

The Murph workout consists of the following for time:

  • 1 Mile Run
  • 100 Pull ups
  • 200 Push Ups
  • 300 Air Squats
  • 1 Mile Run

(Add your own weighted vest if you want)

If you are new to CrossFit within the last 3 months, We recommend you scale the workout and do a half or quarter Murph.  

About the Potluck

For our potluck party, we will be having a burrito bowl potluck. You’re asked to bring something for people to add to their burrito bowl plus an extra side to share. The potluck will start around 5:00pm and finish at 7:00pm. 

For Burrito Bowls, think: Corn, Salsa, Cheese, Sour Cream, Avacado, Beans, Rice, Chicken, Chips, etc. 

Do SIC members need to register & pay

No. SIC members can reserve your spot for the class at 3:30 just like any other class. If you would like to purchase a Memorial Day shirt or be considered for one of the bumper stickers, you will need to register like everyone else.

 

Can I invite my Friends?

Yes. This event is open to the public. Anyone can be part of our event as long as they complete the registration.
